Nearly all internet users’ use search engines. One
simply enters the address of the engine, and then enters keywords
related to their search. Many engines provide easy, direct
ways to access their databases through the use of small applications
known as toolbars. Search engine toolbars make available extra
search and surfing facilities typically from within Internet
Explorer. Some toolbars now have Netscape alternatives lest
with limited capabilities. These extra search facilities allow
one to conduct a search from a browser without having to visit
the search engines site itself. The toolbar automatically
brings you to the engines results page, allowing you to take
it from there. The extra surf facilities include aid web surfing
such as the Google toolbars latest feature, a pop-up ad blocker.
The features benefit both surfers and webmasters. The tools
help webmasters obtain more victors, which means more profits
and success.
All about the Alexa Toolbar- Alexa’s toolbar is popular
with surfers getting over 10 million downloads. The toolbar
is helpful to webmasters with is its ability to provide information
about the site one is currently visiting which comes in the
form of its ranking figure. It in turn, comes from information
that each The Alexa toolbar installed on users’ machines
sends back to its’ server when the user is surfing as
the URL they are currently visiting. Using the Alexa toolbar
gives webmasters the ability to have an insight to the popularity
of a website. One can determine which sites are worthwhile
link exchange partners or worth the cost. Alexa also gives
one the ability to “link up”, visit your own site,
check your ranking and then search for sites interconnected
to yours but with a better ranking. One can use Alexa over
the Google toolbar pagerank feature to establish good link
partners. The advantage is not being search engine based.
Alexa also provides ranking based on the popularity of a site
and actual visits. One can have long term traffic which comes
from reciprocal links alone. Alexa also gives one the ability
to view contact information for a site. You contact them directly
for a link exchange proposal and backwards links pointing
to a site, giving you the ability to see who your competitors
exchange links with and therefore ask them to exchange with
your site too.
All about the Google Toolbar- The Google toolbar is the most
popular toolbar obtainable for download on the internet. It
is an excellent competitive intelligence tool which is why
thousands of webmasters use it. The Google toolbar possesses
the Pagerank scale, a cache version tool, a highlight button,
a backwards links tool, a category button, a search site button
and a similar pages tool. The most popular feature is the
Pagerank scale; it allows webmasters to check the importance
of a certain website within the Google index. Its scale goes
from one through ten on the toolbar. A less important site
would rank as one while a higher important site would rank
as a ten. This feature is useful for webmasters wishing to
swap links for extra traffic from other sites and to obtain
better rankings. The tool is better when used in conjunction
with Alexa ranking figures. Both toolbars can be visible at
the same time. Giving you the ability to search for sites
related to yours with a good ranking figure in Alexa, and
a medium to high ranking on the Pagerank scale on the Google
toolbar. The cache version tool is useful when used in conjunction
with the highlight button.
When clicking through to a site from a results page in Google,
you are taken to that site's current page. You may inevitably
be taken to the page that Google examined to determine its
ranking, that page could have been updated weeks or even months
ago. This is where the caching tool comes in handy. The Googlebot
will take a snapshot of the page which it last examined to
determine ranking so you can see the way the page was then.
This eliminates the problem that many webmasters face when
they try to examine a competitor’s page to try and determine
why Google liked them so much and hence gave them a good ranking.
You should enter keywords or keyphrases when you are on the
cached version of the page, then press the highlight button
tool. All the occurrences of your search terms will be highlighted
in different colors. The highlight tool allows one to get
a quick overview of the keyword distribution of a competing
page. If the highlight is big there was probably more weight
on that section of the page used to determine the pages position
in the results of the search. The highlight tool can also
be used to find hidden text; sometimes competitors might be
using an unknown method. Google will highlight in bold any
occurrences of the search terms not within the main search
results and the page as a whole including within any Adwords
ads that are at hand.
Google has a backward links tool which lets you see all sites
which link to a particular sir. It can be used to draw off
competitors by finding out who links to them, then emailing
them to webmasters to link to you. The category button gives
users the ability to locate the category a website is listed
within, if listed, in the Google directory. Webmasters are
able to search for quality sites to link with, visit the category
page, and find results. The results in the Google directory
are automatically returned in order of descending pagerank,
the best and most popular being at the top of the page. The
site search button allows webmasters to immediately see how
many pages of their site Google indexed. The similar page
provides you with links to pages that Google deems similar.
Google is able to determine if it is related to your industry
making the links are prime candidates for link.
There are two main parts Google uses; the first is its text
matching system where Google attempts to search for pages
relevant to what the searcher has entered in the search box,
the second is the Google patented Pagerank™ system.
Google considers keyword density, about six to ten percent
in the body of a page for determining relevancy. Google also
has various header tags these are tags designed to help you
split up sections of your page. The header tags go from <h6>
the smallest to <h1> the biggest, the bigger the heading
tag the more relevant your page will become for the words
within it. It is important that you try to have your most
important words within these tags as often as possible throughout
your page.
Another way to make a page more is by using as many keywords
that appear within bold <b> tags as you can and have
your keywords and phrases in links which point to your site.
You can have the linking text contain your keywords. A pages’
voting power is only .85 of an actual PR, this voting power
gets spread out evenly between all sites it links to. To sum
it up, not only is PR of your linking page important, but
so is the amount of sites that you are linked to from your
page. Google has a special online marketing feature called
Adwords; it is Googles version of the pay-per-click advertising
model. It allows you to display ads which link directly to
your website when searches are done for your chosen keywords
or keyphrases. The resulted are displayed on Googles and many
other partner sites which include AOL, Earthlink, HowStuffWorks
and blogger.
Googles’ Adwords program uses a PPC model so you only
pay when someone clicks on your ad and thus visits your website.
The program has a also has a setup time and specific country
/ language targeting over two hundred fifty countries and
fourteen languages, meaning you have extra control over your
ads being shown to a highly targeted audience. The advantages
of Adword include its’ discounter feature which lowers
your cost per click price to one cent above your nearest competitor.
Your ads can be live on Google within five minutes of creating
them; you have the ability to see results immediately. It
also positions your ads for you, with a CTR of at least.05%
meaning your company will be left with deep pockets. Googles
has an Adsence program where your ads can be displayed on
websites related to your keywords.
