Yahoo is a human compiled directory of websites that does
not have a spiderbot going to sites and indexing them. Getting
listed on Yahoo should be one of the most important missions
on any Internet marketers mind. An estimated fort percent
captures all search engine traffic online, meaning one out
of two people that do searches on the Internet use Yahoo.
When submitting, commercial sites must use "Business
Express", if they wish to be listed by Yahoo. It costs
roughly three hundred dollars a year to use this service.
"Business Express" is basically the same as free
submit except your site is guaranteed to be reviewed within
a week's time. It does not guarantee that your site will be
accepted and added to the Yahoo index, though it guarantee's
a timely review of your application. Before submitting, be
sure your site is completely ready, under construction pages
should not apply to Yahoo because they're not going to get
in. Your site should be pleasing to the reviewer, be quick
loading and have lots of good content.
Search results on Yahoo are determined by words that appear
within category, title, description, and URL. They are sorted
by relevance using an automated algorithm. A top listing would
have the most occurrences of words between its titles, description,
URL and words in the category it's in. When establishing a
category, search for one or two of your keywords and see what
categories come up. Yahoos’ algorithm searches through
the category name also. It may be beneficial to submit to
a very specific category with lots of keywords in the category
name. Category names are similar to having more titles and
descriptions. It is recommended to obtain the most general
category and rely on the keywords in a title, URL and description
to get a good ranking in the search results. When applying
for a title, Yahoo recommends you use your official business
or website name. Since yahoo favors short titles, your will
be favored it is short, rather than be edited.
The website description posted with your URL is a major aspect
in the way your site will rank once s listed in the directory.
You must submit a description which has your main keywords
in it while making it sound interesting to probable visitors.
The length of the description should be about ten to fifteen
words. If Yahoo believes anything is unbeneficial, it will
either edit or move on to the next application. The description
should be succinct, based on facts, and briefly include your
most important keywords whenever possible.
A great way to get listed on Yahoo, is to use an about us
page on your site, let Yahoo know who they are dealing with.
Describe what you do and post the physical address of your
business or the building your website is run from.
